Johnie Thornton was born and raised in Southern California and currently living & working as an artist in Los Angeles. I first spotted Thornton during Create:Fixate’s event “I Art You” where he was deep in thought and gazing at one of his mesmerizing paintings.

That night Thorton’s painting had captivated my mind. His unique style of bold colors and shapes had hypnotized my thoughts and I wanted to know more about him.  A couple months later after the Create Fixate event I had the opportunity to ask him, “Why do you choose art?”, and he stated:

“I choose art because it’s an avenue of communication for me. When I am making art I feel free to approach my thoughts and ideas, especially the ones that I would otherwise be unable to successfully confront.

When I am not making art, I’m endlessly thinking about making art and constantly mapping out new concepts within my head.

Being an artist means I am persistently excited and inspired to create. I see art in everything around me and I see my life’s experiences as a wall of inspiration to draw from. I make art because I cannot stop thinking about it and I cannot help but do it. At the end of the day I can’t  imagine a life without art.”

Thornton’s body of work ranges from photography to abstract paintings. His work is largely influenced by sociology, geometry, architecture, and their relationship to nature. He holds a strong appreciation for math and loves translating images into numbers and then back into images.

Thornton’s work has been featured in multiple galleries, events, and fairs throughout Southern and Northern California. His paintings and commissions have also appeared in numerous television shows, movies and commercials.

On Thursday  July 24th Johnie Thorton will be featured in a group art show hosted by Bid27 at the Think Tank Gallery. They will being showcasing contemporary, hand-selected artistic talents whose careers are being watched closely by the Los Angeles art community. Join Thornton and 10 other artists in Downtown Los Angeles for their live Summer Art Auction, featuring over 50 works of art.
