In a modern world filled with selfies and Instagram filters, Tami Bahat is a photographer who channels old master painters like Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and Vermeer. She seizes her studies in a renaissance environment and grants seductive mysteries to lurk in every corner.

Her detailed photographs are cinematically lush and filled with authentic human gestures. She captures thoughtful moments that embrace ideas similar to painters and sculptors by simply applying them to her photography.

She states:
“It’s important for me to celebrate the uniqueness in every one of us, to show humanity. I find the idea that there is no one beauty standard exciting.”

As a young girl living in Israel, Tami was gifted a camera which allowed her dynamic curiosity to take over. She began by capturing portraits of her immediate surroundings and later discovering the fine art world through her father who taught at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.

Today, Tami lives in Los Angeles and focuses on telling symbolic stories through her camera. In her newest series “Dramatis Personae” she blurs the lines between neoclassical still-lifes and chromatic symbolism. Tami’s composition of each photograph opens a window into a mysterious world where tender yet quirky humanity illuminates each piece. From priests to maids, and even fierce twins she encourages viewers to conduct their own open-ended story of how her personality is reflected.

She states:
“I began this work in 2015 and from the start, it felt very natural. I love the idea of photographing the people in my life and throwing them back to a time that I have a lot of affinity for.”

On February 3rd join Tami Bahat at Building Bridges Art Exchange located within Bergamot Station for an exclusive artist talk starting at 2 pm. Arrive early and experience her solo photography exhibition, Revisiting Humanity: Secrets and Lifetimes, curated by Marisa Caichiolo. Tami’s artwork will remain on display through February 17th.
